A New Adventure

I’m just going to go ahead and put this out there for the world to judge me by: today I dropped my precious firstborn off at her first day of pre-school and I was not sad. Not even a little. Not  for one minute.

And neither was Emery. We walked in and she took one glance at all the fun things to do in her classroom and didn’t even look back. And I took one look at all those same things and thought, “thank God I don’t have to clean that up”.

And so it was…that historical moment of dropping your child off at school for the first time was not only anti-climactic, but actually quite enjoyable. The only negative emotion I felt at all was guilt about not being sad and I was over it by the time I pulled out of the parking lot.

Doesn’t she look like she could be a backpack model in that pic on the left?

She had such a great time at her first day and was so proud of her bag with her name on it.

I do hate that she’s growing up so fast, and I suppose that’s what the emotion of this type of “first” is all about. But I’m equally happy for the adventures of every new chapter.

For these next shots, I told her to “show me sassy”…

…and then I wondered how the heck she knows what sassy is (and how she got to be so good at it).

We joke in our house that Emery is going to be a commentator when she grows up because she is never short on words…that was no different when she gave her debrief on school. However, by the time Shane got home she had been asked by so many people how her first day went that when he asked, she held up her hand and waved it in his face and said, “no. no. no. I’m not taking any more questions about school.”

And that solidifies it. Our sweet baby girl is all grown up.

Dear Emery: you are the cutest. pre-schooler.ever (in my completely unbiased opinion) and I’m super excited about hearing your commentary on the adventures of the “beginners” class.
