The 3-G’s
Have you ever had a friend that was present only for a short season of life but, in that small window of time, made an eternal impact? These kids’ mom was that for me. I was in high school. She was finishing law school. She needed a place to stay and my parents offered up the room next to mine. She was older and wiser and cooler and I hung on her every word…but, honestly, it wasn’t even what she said that influenced me so greatly…it was how she lived. And WHO she was.
Simply by watching her live her life (even when “watching” just meant overhearing what was happening on the other side of the thin double doors that separated our spaces) I learned what it means to be loyal, and spiritual…(the kind that’s real, genuine, life changing)… and graceful, and patient and perseverant. These things flowed naturally out of her and left a lasting impact on me during some very formative years. She got married…I went off to college…and our paths only cross once or twice a year (if we’re lucky) so I was truly honored when she was in town for a last minute visit and asked me to do some pics of her beautiful children: Grace, Grant, and Graham (try saying those names 3 times, fast).
I’m not just saying this to be nice (shocking, I’m sure, for those of you who really know me) but they were the MOST fun to photograph and SO cooperative!
When I said, “hug”, they did.
(btw, are you kidding me with those AH-mazing eyes?)
When I said, “laugh”, it was genuine.
And when I said, “jump”, they said “how high?”
love this pic.
Dear God, please let me have tow-head (I actually was one, but so far the husband’s genes have proven to be quite dominant. Argh).
I’d totally take a read head too…especially one as cute as this:
…or as beautiful as this:
Just like I want to grow up to be exactly like their mama, I hope my girls turn out a lot like sweet Grace. Behind those beautiful eyes and adorable dimples is the most kind-hearted, tender, respectful, mature-beyond-her-years young woman.
…and here’s to hoping my kids are this kind of friends:
Dear Jerky (a.k.a. Lisa, but always been “jerky” to me): it was a privilege. You and Brett are so blessed and the 3-G’s could. not. be. cuter! Come visit more often (and with more than 24 hrs notice:)).
