Macomb in May
A couple weeks ago we headed up to Shane’s hometown (the thriving metropolis of Macomb, Illinois) for mother’s day. When Shane and I were first dating, I dreaded these trips to the country. I’m a city girl and to me Macomb was like a foreign land (strange food, slow pace, no Nordstrom…it was barely tolerable). On the drive home I would always remind Shane of our conversation early on in our relationship where I informed him that if he wanted to move back to the country, that would be a deal-breaker for me (I promise I’ve matured a little since then).
Since the kiddos have come along, I have begun to appreciate our visits to the boondocks…a break from the rat-race, an extra set of helping hands, and the look of sheer joy on Emery’s face when she catches a fish or rides the 4-wheeler or spots a deer have totally changed my attitude about the country. When we were up there this last time, I noticed this cool barn right down the road from Shane’s parent’s house, and I couldn’t resist dragging the kids over there for a few shots before we headed back to civilization.
Emery recently spent some time in a phase where she would NOT look at or smile for the camera…she has officially moved on to being a total camera ham.

Adley, on the other hand, is not about to sit still and has no interest what-so-ever in being a stellar subject. She’s still pretty darn cute though (snaggle teeth and all).
All around were Emery’s favorite flower: the dandilion (or in Emery speak, “blow flowers”). This might be my favorite pic of all time.
While Emery was catching her breath from all the “blowing”, Adley was doing something in a field with a guilty look on her face…
I literally took a million pictures in front of and around this cool barn, but I’ll leave you with this one. Another fav.
A good time was had by all.
Hi Kelly: You are precious. You do not know what your blog means to David and I. You, Shane, Emery and Adley are our precious blessings from the Father of Light.
Macomb has a way of growing on people. Many years ago, I took the position at Macomb thinking one year and I would move on to a bigger place. Guess what, God had a different plan. I love the town and its people. Blessings, mona
